RSMGC Seeks Silent Auction Items. The organizers of the Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic (Oct. 9 at Berkeley Hills CC in Atlanta, GA) request that all participants, sponsors, and supporters take a look in their marketing closets for any items that can be donated to the Silent Auction that takes place at this year’s event.
Past RSMGC Silent Auction items have included memorabilia, collectibles, sporting event tickets, sporting equipment (particularly golf equipment), cases of wine, and other high value products.
All donations are welcome, and can be directed to Robert Laarhoven at Laarhoven Design. For more information on the RSMGC Silent Auction email Robert at r.laarhoven@laarhovendesign.com.
EACA TCR System Charter Period Expires August 31. All EACA members are reminded that the Charter subscription period for the EACA Tradeshow Credit Reporting system expires on August 31, 2006.
Any member that subscribes to the EACA TCR system by August 31 will enjoy advantaged subscription rates in perpetuity.
Take Advantage of Early Registration Discounts for RSMGC. Speaking of advantaged rates, the Early Bird Discount for the 2006 RSMGC is available to all those who plan to participate or sponsor this year’s event.

ASTRO Reminder The deadline for EAC registrations for the 2006 ASTRO show is August 25, 2006.

Support the RSMGC – Wear your 2006 Bracelet. The organizers of the RSMGC have come up with a new way for EACA members to support this year’s event. There are RSMGC bracelets available for a donation of $5 each. These attractive green bracelets (like the Livestrong bracelets you might have seen) are available from distributors across the country.

Randy Pekowski promoted
to Chief Operating Officer
Irving, Texas Randall J. Pekowski has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Expo Group effective immediately. He will directly oversee all operational aspects of the company, including the core general contracting business and the exhibit design house division.

IMTS Show Credentials
All EACA members who have been approved to work at IMTS (having submitted your IMTS EAC agreement and Certificate of Liability Insurance) can pick up access credentials near the A Hall in the corridor between North and South Halls, or on Level 2 in the Lakeside Center near the Security Room (#250-251).
MPEA No Smoking Enforcement Announcement
The MPEA will be strictly enforcing the No Smoking Policy during the IMTS Show, and thereafter. All EACA members, as well as all contractors working in McCormick Place and the Navy Pier should take note. Citation books have been ordered and will be issued to all offenders.
McCormick Place Fire Safety & Security along with reps from the Contract Security Company, Show Management and GES will be forming teams to rove each building looking for violators. Smoking is only permissible outside the buildings.

The Chicago Chapters of EDPA and EACA who hosted their 4th Annual Charity Golf Outing on August 7 would like to make a correction and addition about the sponsors who were recognized in the last issue of the Showfloor Buzz.

First the Riggers, Now the Decorators’ Union Signs New Labor Agreement in Chicago
<Trade Show Executive> Following more than four months of intense negotiations, a new, five-year collective bargaining agreement with Chicago’s decorators union was announced by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), GES Exposition Services, Freeman and the United Steelworkers Local 17 Decorators Union. Key provisions of the contract include new straight-time windows, reduced crew sizes, random drug testing and expanded management rights.
Jim Reid Joins Freeman as Vice President, Exhibit Transportation
Dallas, TX Jim Reid has joined Freeman in the position of vice president, exhibit transportation, effective July 24, 2006. Reid comes to Freeman with over nineteen years of experience in the logistics/transportation industry. He was most recently with Eagle Global Logistics as regional vice president of business development.
DON EMERSON JOINS FREEMAN IN NEW SALES OFFICE
Chicago, IL Bob Lozier, executive vice president for Freeman’s executive sales group, announced that Don Emerson has joined Freeman as national sales manager in the company’s new sales office in Cincinnati.
FREEMAN ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGES IN LAS VEGAS Las Vegas, NV Steve Hagstette, Sr., regional vice president for Freeman, announced several management changes in the company’s Las Vegas operation, designed to provide additional leadership due to continued growth in their exposition and event business.
Chris Schimek is now general manager for Freeman Las Vegas, moving up from his former position as assistant general manager. Schimek has over 16 years of experience in the exposition industry, having previously worked at United Expositions and GES before joining Freeman in 1997. His career with Freeman began in Atlanta, where he worked as assistant and director of operations before becoming assistant general manager there. In 2003, Schimek transferred to the Las Vegas office as assistant general manager, and has since been an integral part of the company’s tremendous growth in that city.
Allen Lind has been promoted to assistant general manager from his previous position as senior director, operations. Lind has over 23 years of industry experience, and is well known and respected in the Las Vegas community for his expertise and excellent working relationship. Prior to joining Freeman, Lind worked for GES in Las Vegas where he was vice president, operations. In his new role, all operations departments in Las Vegas will report to him.
Jim Ness has accepted the new position of executive director of management & labor relations, moving into this role from his previous position as general manager. Ness brings over 24 years of experience in the Las Vegas exposition services industry to his new position. He joined Freeman in 1992 to open their Las Vegas office. Ness will focus his efforts on department and employee training and development for what has become the largest exposition workforce in the nation.

EACA members are also permitted to submit job postings to the Buzz free of charge for a one time listing. Member job postings can be extended for additional weeks in the Buzz as well as posted to the EACA web site.
