DEAR
SHOWFLOOR BUZZ
As you know, ACC is being staged in New Orleans next March and
we have a number of EAC-assembled booths. I was curious if
you've heard any anecdotes from your members about what it's
like working in New Orleans these days--i.e., how the labor
pool is doing, whether EACs are having to bring in more people
from out of town/state, division of the workforce between EACs
and GSCs, outlook for next year, etc. There have already been a
couple of major shows in Morial, but at ~225K nsf, ours is
probably more EAC-dependent than those. I know there are a
couple of big shows occurring there in October & November,
including Reproductive Medicine, Coatings, and Realtors.
Anyway, in your discussions with
members, if you talk to anyone who's worked New Orleans lately,
I'd appreciate any feedback they have. We're looking toward a
successful meeting next March.
Thanks.
Kent Riffert
Associate Director, Exposition Logistics
American College of Cardiology
In response to Kent's question
regarding New Orleans, I can report that Renaissance recently was
contracted to manage a private event in the facility for a major
Multi-National Company. Our responsibilities included draying the
freight, supply of basic decorating materials, and of course,
management of the labor portion of the project. I must say that
in the planning stages of the event, there was considerable
trepidation on the part of the customer, as they had concerns
regarding the availability of the resources necessary to complete
the job. I am happy to report that all fears were unfounded, and
the show was a major success by all standards.
Having said that, Kent's question is well
placed, as the city is still in a re-building mode, and is not
where it wants to be long term. I feel that by opening up the
dialogue this early in the process, Kent is insuring that all
parties related to the production of the event will be checking
and assuring that their respective organizations are in a
position to deliver the goods or services required by their
customers.
Please pass this information to Kent, along
with the invitation to discuss this matter further if he feels
Renaissance can be of any assistance.
Regards,
Steve Johnson, President
