San Diego. Recognizing the
natural synergy that exists in the collective memberships and
industry missions, the EACA and EDPA joined forces this
in San Diego at its Winter Meetings.
Attendance at the Joint Meeting broke records for both
associations, a clear affirmation that memberships on both
sides appreciated the added value of this joint meeting.
Highlights of the meeting included:
- Keynote
presentation by Robyn Waters on trend spotting called “The
Hummer and the Mini”
- Panel discussion on the new
partnership for customer service: Labor and Facilities

EITF to Promote Expanded Random Drug
Testing. At its meeting in San Diego
this week, the Exhibit Industry Task Force rededicated itself to
promoting the expansion of the random drug testing program which
began in the Washington Convention Center two years ago.
The percentage of showfloor workers that test positive for drug
use has been reduced from 30% to 7% in Washington DC over the
past two years, which is proof positive that the random drug
testing system is doing its job to assist the EITF in its mission
to rid the showfloor of drug and alcohol use during move in and
move out of shows.
The intention of the EITF is to communicate the effectiveness of
this program to all US convention centers and to initiate
programs across the country.
The upside benefit of this happening in our industry beyond the
obvious safety benefits for our labor force, and our customers,
is the reduction of costs due to lost time accidents which are
often the result of drug and alcohol abuse.
