EACA Showfloor Buzz

Vol. 10, Issue 10, March 7, 2007

EACA NEWS

The Rally at the Alley III, is scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd in Boston, and will be held to support one of our own, industry veteran Karin Brennan. Many of you know Karin from her positions at Folio, Innovations and Design KnowHow - she is in need of a kidney transplant and is currently undergoing dialysis.

Karin, a single mom raising two college-aged boys, is struggling with the financial hardships resulting from her ongoing medical treatments. We are asking you, our trade show family, to help support Karin both emotionally and financially.

For more information on how you can support Karin, and the2007  Rally at the Alley or the RSMGC, please contact event organizer, Sharon Bingham,  at 800-342-1482 or Jim Wurm at 541-317-8768.

To register for this year’s event go to www.ralleythealley.com.

Coverings Reminder      The EACA has distributed survey forms to all Chicago-based members regarding this year’s April show at McCormick Place.  The EACA is seeking to support the MPEA in making this year’s show in Chicago a complete success, and we appreciate all our members cooperation and assistance to make this possible.

EACA Reception at Exhibitor – Sponsored by Employco.     All EACA members are invited to attend the EACA Reception at the Exhibitor Show – sponsored by Employco Services.

The reception will take place at the close of exhibits on Monday, Monday, March 26 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in Club Room A in the Events Center.

We look forward to seeing you there!!

New TSA Rules and Regs Affect Show Freight.     All EACA members need to familiarize themselves with the new rules imposed by the TSA which govern freight on Independent Air Carriers (IACs).

At the time of acceptance of a shipment, an IAC (Indirect Air Carrier) employee or authorized representative must request a valid form of ID from each individual who tenders the cargo for transport.  An expired ID is not valid for the purposes of this check.

In order to fly freight on passenger aircraft IACs must comply with the following:

1. Customers must be present when freight is tendered to the agent.  The customer must have a valid government issue ID such as a driver's license.
2. The agent is required to verify the information on the ID.  Forms will be filled out at the customer's location with the agent present not ahead of time.
3. The freight will be opened and visually inspected by the driver. Shipments not allowed to be inspected will be refused.
4. The description of the freight on the paperwork must match the freight being inspected.  Any variations will be refused. Exhibit material is no good.
5. The forms filled out by the agent must be faxed from the customer's location to ops (and approved) before the agent leaves.

In order to fly freight on cargo only aircraft IACs must comply with the following:

The bottom line to these changes is that all shippers must be sure to deal with a carrier that understands the laws governing air shipments, and who has people and systems in place to handle all air freight according to these new stipulations.

DEAR SHOWFLOOR BUZZ

I was wondering if you could help me?   I have heard there is a directory available that lists tradeshows for like the next 10 years across North America… any ideas on  where to get one?

I see there are some books available that are  published annually from Reed and Gildspur, but I don’t know if those are what  I am looking for or not.  Suggestions??   Thanks!!
