Annoucning the National Labor Management Conference The EACA, along with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and ESCA, will be sponsoring a National Labor Management Conference in Las Vegas, NV on March 7-8, 2008 at the UBC Training Center. This invitation-only event will not only include labor and contractors who utlize labor to provide exhibit services, but also facility management, show organizers and other industry leaders from across the nation. The intention of the conference is to examine ideas and initiatives that can enable trade show contractors and labor to improve the quality of customer servicing at trade shows. Invitations for attending the NLM Conference will be sent out during December. EACA-EDPA Winter Meeting Gets High Marks The EACA, in conjunction with EDPA, held its Winter Meeting in Marco Island, FL last week to the delight of the more than 250 participants. Enjoying a great respite from the harsh weather that was plaguing the rest of the country, EACA and EDPA members gathered to celebrate a highly successful year in the trade show industry, while tackling some of the tough issues that lay ahead. On a high note Customer Service was a focal point of the keynote presentation, while attendees also participated in sessions on Sales Tax Liability and the EDPA White Paper on Bundling – two isssues of significant concern to many EACA and EDPA members. All in all, reviews for the meeting were very positive and there was an increased sense of comraderie between EACA and EDPA members who were pleased to have the opportunity to get together to discuss serious business and future opportunities in a pleasant location. Next year’s Winter Meeting is slated to be held at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami, FL. Chicago Customer Service Training. The EACA conducted its second trade show Customer Service Training in Chicago this week as part of the “Chicago Commitment” to improve customer servicing at shows in McCormick Place. The EACA Customer Service Training program is a 16 hour course that is delivered in 4 hour segments. More than 100 showfloor workers participated in both Level 1 and Level 2 Customer Service Training programs. The second installment of the EACA Customer Service Training Program will be developed and delivered by Randy Eppard, Phd in Human Development. Eppard is an associate professor for University of Maryland University College, Prior to his professorship, Eppard worked for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters as Director of Training Curriculum. Randy developed th customer service program under the direction and guidance of Chicago Chapter EACA President Joe Mondelli. Congratulations to Dave Walens of Brumark, who received the Ambassador Award from EDPA at the EACA-EDPA Winter Meeting last week in Marco Island. Dave was recognized for his tireless support of the EDPA and the EDPA Foundation and is most deserving of the recognition. Way to go Wally!!

Kent Jones Joins 3D Exhibits <Tradeshow Week> Longtime senior executive with exhibit design firm Derse Exhibits, Kent Jones, has joined 3D Exhibits, where he will fill the newly created position of senior vice president and client results strategist. Jones was formerly vice president of creative services with Derse, where he worked for the past 13 years. Study shows exhibitors want to go green <Tradeshow Week> Sixty-two percent of exhibitors have indicated that their interest in using environmentally friendly options is high or very high, according to a white paper released by the Exhibitor Magazine Group. The report, titled “An Inconvenient Booth: The Economic Impact of the Green Movement on the Trade Show Industry, Trend Report No. 1,” surveyed 498 exhibitors and 110 suppliers. U-Neek Service Contractor Acquired by Shepard <Trade Show Executive> Shepard Exposition Services has acquired U-Neek Exposition Services, a general service contractor whose roots go back nearly 50 years, announced Carl Mitchell, Shepard President and CEO. With the acquisition, Shepard now has an operations center in the Washington, DC-Baltimore area along with its sales office there.
Greg Farrar Named President of Nielsen Business Media <Trade Show Executive> Greg Farrar was named president of Nielsen Business Media on Nov. 16 after running the company for nearly a year following the sudden death of Robert Krakoff in March. Farrar, who has been with Nielsen for 20 years, had been chief operating officer since 2006 and will continue to report directly to Nielsen Company Chairman and CEO David Calhoun.
