National Labor Management Conference in Las Vegas this Week! The EACA, along with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and ESCA, will be sponsoring the National Labor Management Conference in Las Vegas, NV on March 7-8, 2008 at the UBC Training Center. This invitation-only event will not only include labor and contractors who utlize labor to provide exhibit services, but also facility management, show organizers and other industry leaders from across the nation. The intention of the conference is to examine ideas and initiatives that can enable trade show contractors and labor to improve the quality of customer servicing at trade shows. If you are an owner, or senior level employee, and haven’t received an invitation to the NLM Conference you can request one by sending an email to jimwurm@eaca.com.
EACA Board to Meet in Las Vegas. The EACA Board of Directors will be meeting in Las Vegas on March 10 at the Exhibitor Show. Any members who have issues of interest that you would like to bring to the attention of the Board are encouraged to email jimwurm@eaca.com. EITF Meets in Las Vegas on March 9. The Exhibit Industry Task Force will meet in Las Vegas during the Exhibitor Show at Mandalay Bay on Sunday, March 9. The EITF was begun in 1999, at the urging of Ken Viscovich, the international representative of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. He had noticed that labor was noticeably absent from many, if not all, high level trade show industry meetings. He felt that an organization like the EITF could go a long way to creating positive impact on our industry – particularly for issues that required the buy-in, or cooperation, of the trades that service our industry.
So, with his cooperation, and the participation of many of the industry associations, the EITF began its work. The initial members of the EITF included the EACA, EDPA, ESCA, IAAM, IAEM (now IAEE), IATSE, IBEW, IUPAT, SISO, Teamsters, and the UBC. Since that time we have worked on the following initiatives:
• Trade Show Industry Glossary of Terms • Labor Management Funds for the promotion of the trade show industry. • Universal Photo ID protocol for showfloor workers The most recent work of the EITF is centered on the development of a protocol for random Drug & Alcohol Testing for all convention centers. The meeting on March 9 will be centered on how the EITF can leverage the success of the drug testing currently being carried on at the Washington CC in Washington, DC to reach more convention centers throughout the US.

DEAR SHOWFLOOR BUZZ
On behalf of Bob Lessin, thank you very much for your help in forwarding the invitation to last week’s Local 831 luncheon to your contractors. It was a successful and well attended meeting. 29 of our general contractors attended and many of the I&D houses, as well as all 20 plus apprentices. The meeting was very informative for the contractors. They were able to ask questions, introduce themselves and actually meet and talk with the apprentices. We are all very excited about the program.

Rally at the Alley Announcement
The Rally at the Alley IV will be held on March 27th at Lucky Strike Lanes in Boston. More information will be available in the coming weeks and can also be found at www.rallyatthealley.com. Sponsorship opportunities are available; please contact Sharon Bingham for details at 800-342-1482 or sbingham@championboston.com. The Rally at the Alley is a bowl-a-thon event held in Boston every March, was founded four years ago to not only financially support the RSMGC but also as a way for New England and East Coast based companies and people to gather and show support for our industry. This year, we are once again grateful for the opportunity to be of assistance to a local individual and her family, Bonnie DiStasio of Champion Logistics Group, Boston.
Bonnie has had a difficult year battling and eventually beating breast cancer. Until you have experienced it, no one can imagine the emotional and financial damage cancer can do to a family. Bonnie and her husband Matt have worked hard this past year to fight a terrible disease while maintaining a normal lifestyle for their two children, Gina, 11 and Anthony, 7. While insurance has covered a good portion of Bonnie's medical expenses, personal expenses such as travel to and from the hospital, parking fees and time away from work for both Bonnie and her husband Matt can quickly add up.
The Rally at the Alley is proud to be an ancillary event of the Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic, a 501.3.c charitable organization.
