RSMGC 2007 Approaches!The 2007 Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic will take place at Berkeley Hills Country Club on October 8, 2007 in Duluth, GA (outside of Atlanta).
 
It’s time to make your plans for this year’s event, and full details about the event and the 2007 recipients is now available on the RSMGC web site at www.rsmgc.com

MG DESIGN ANNOUNCES RETURN OF PROGRAM MANAGER    MG Design Associates is pleased to announce the  return of James Hassett to the Program Management team after a brief hiatus. Hassett left MG  Design Associates in July, 2006, to pursue a career as an Estimator/Draftsman for a local cabinet  and millwork company, later returning to the tradeshow industry and MG Design to seamlessly  pick up where he left off.
 
Mark Your Calendars for the EACA Winter Meeting    The EACA will be holding its Winter Meeting in conjunction with EDPA again this year – so please be sure to mark your calendars.
 
The meeting will take place on Marco Island, FL from November 28-30, 2007.    To register for the conference go the EDPA web site at www.edpa.com.
 
Also please note that the EDPA has reserved a block of rooms at the Hotel, at a special group rate, over the Conference dates.  EACA members are encouraged to make their reservations as soon as possible.
 
Rooms within the block are limited, and are available on a first-come/first-served basis.
Room rate is $179, single or double, plus tax (approx 10%).
 
Please contact the hotel for information on suites.    You can make your reservations by calling toll-free, (800) 438-4373, or by calling the hotel directly at (239) 394-2511.  
 
Please identify yourself as part of the Exhibit Designers & Producers Association.  A credit card is required to reserve your reservation; card will not be charged until arrival at the hotel.

Walt & Georgeanne McCreary recently had a new arrival.     Their son,  Peyton Joshua McCreary, was born on Sept.5, 2007 and weighed in at 7lbs. 13oz.
 
Congratulations Walt and Georgeanne!!
 
Franc Dutton, long time member of the EACA, from F.E. Dutton & Associates, passed away on July 8 in Athens, Greece.   The EACA sends its condolences to Franc’s family and friends.

CHICAGO CHAPTER ANNOUNCEMENT

Next Customer Service Training – November 2007

The Chicago Chapter of the EACA, in conjunction with the MPEA and EACA National will be sponsoring its 2nd Customer Service Training Program for showfloor workers in Chicago on November 26 thru November 28.
 
The second installment of the EACA Customer Service Training Program will be developed and delivered by Randy Eppard, Phd in Human Development.   Eppard is an associate professor for University of Maryland University College,    Prior to his professorship, Eppard worked for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters as Director of Training Curriculum.   Randy developed th customer service program under the direction and guidance of Chicago Chapter EACA President Joe Mondelli.

ORLANDO CHAPTER ANNOUNCEMENT


Orlando Stagehands Vote

As you have probably heard by now, LU 835 members voted against the proposed contract negotiated between area contractors and the union.  
 
It will take a couple of weeks to get the final results from the other locals votes.  It can be passed if the proper number of yes votes come in from these other cities.  If it is declined we will set another date to hear from the union and any additional proposals they may have at that time.  The union is aware the companies will not be liable for any retroactive payments.

MPEA Looks to Future Expansion
 <M&C Midweek News> The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which owns and operates McCormick Place and Navy Pier in Chicago, might exercise the right of eminent domain to acquire property north of the new West Building at McCormick Place for future development. On Monday, the MPEA board approved an ordinance that would allow the organization to file a condemnation action in court, although a spokesperson said the board still is considering the option of purchasing the land outright.
 
Event for trade show technology to debut   <Expo Web News>   An exposition showcasing technology specifically designed for the event industry is being launched by McLean, VA-based The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), White Plains, NY-based George Little Management (GLM) and NY-based Alliance Consulting Strategies (ACS). The Event Technology Expo (ETE) will take place September 10-11, 2008, as part of HSMAI's Affordable Meetings National at the Washington Convention Center

Bob Johnson Named as GM of New Orleans Convention Center
   <Trade Show Executive>   SMG Vice President of Operations Development Robert L. Johnson has been tapped to become the new president and general manager of the Ernest L. Morial Convention Center ˆ New Orleans. Johnson, who leaves SMG after 10 years, will also serve as executive vice president of the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority.

This publication is sent free of charge to all EACA members each Wednesday, and to non-members four weeks later.   Annual subscriptions to current issues of the Buzz are available to non-members for $49.95.    Please send subscription requests to jimwurm@eaca.com

EACA members are also permitted to submit job postings to the Buzz free of charge for a one time listing.   Member job postings can be extended for additional weeks in the Buzz as well as posted to the EACA web site.    The costs for extending your job posting are one month for $50, 2 months for $85, and 3 months for $125.
