EACA Conducts Sales
Tax Liability Survey The EACA is conducting a survey of its
members regarding sales tax liability.
The goal of this survey is to collect data on EACA
members’ experience and current practices regarding sales
tax so that we might better understand this issue as an
association. Our intention is to use
this data to provide a "Best Practices" document on sales tax
issues for all members, as well as potentially retaining a
sales tax professional who can offer advice and recommendations
on a state by state basis to our members. The
decision on whether we retain the tax professional or not will
be based upon the number of members who express interest in
supporting that effort.
If you have not yet responded to the request to
participate in this survey, we urge you to do so. If you
haven’t received a request to participate in the survey
and would like to do so, please send an email to
jimwurm@eaca.com.
Make Plans to Attend the National Labor Management
Conference The EACA, along with the
United Brotherhood of Carpenters and ESCA, will be sponsoring a
National Labor Management Conference in Las Vegas, NV on March
7-8, 2008 at the UBC Training Center.
This invitation-only event will not only include labor and
contractors who utlize labor to provide exhibit services, but
also facility management, show organizers and other industry
leaders from across the nation. The intention of the conference
is to examine ideas and initiatives that can enable trade show
contractors and labor to improve the quality of customer
servicing at trade shows.
Invitations for attending the NLM Conference have been sent
out. If you are an owner, or senior level employee,
and haven’t received an invitation you can request one by
sending an email to jimwurm@eaca.com.
Rally at the Alley IV Date
Set The Rally at the Alley IV will be held on March
27th at Lucky Strike Lanes in Boston. More information will be
available in the coming weeks and can also be found at
www.rallyatthealley.com. Sponsorship opportunities are
available; please contact Sharon Bingham for details at
800-342-1482 or sbingham@championboston.com.
The Rally at the Alley is a bowl-a-thon event held in Boston
every March, was founded four years ago to not only financially
support the RSMGC but also as a way for New England and East
Coast based companies and people to gather and show support for
our industry.
This year, we are once again grateful for the opportunity to
be of assistance to a local individual and her family, Bonnie
DiStasio of Champion Logistics Group, Boston.
Bonnie has had a difficult year
battling and eventually beating breast cancer. Until you have
experienced it, no one can imagine the emotional and financial
damage cancer can do to a family. Bonnie and her husband Matt
have worked hard this past year to fight a terrible disease
while maintaining a normal lifestyle for their two children,
Gina, 11 and Anthony, 7. While insurance has covered a good
portion of Bonnie's medical expenses, personal expenses such as
travel to and from the hospital, parking fees and time away
from work for both Bonnie and her husband Matt can quickly add
up.
The Rally at the Alley is proud to be
an ancillary event of the Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic, a
501.3.c charitable organization.

DEAR SHOWFLOOR BUZZ
The December 10 issue of Tradeshow Week
focused attention on the EACs and their position in the
industry. The organizers who dictated the labor
terms at the New England Intl Auto Show in Boston’s
public convention and exhibition center took the industry back
in time. It has been a proven fact that the
government frowns on exclusivities, anticompetitive acts and/or
monopolistic terms to obtain sales.
The exhibitors’ right to choose and the EACs right to
competitive pricings are violated. The fair practice
standards are constantly taken advantage of by the “big
guys” and in most instances, the majority has to fight
for “choice”. The associations must be firm
to those violators of “choice” and educate show
organizers to the damages exclusivity does to the entire
tradeshow industry.
We all know that it has been a proven fact that a free
enterprise open door policy always benefits the industry.
Best regards,

Dear Showfloor Buzz,
Regarding the sales tax liability issue, we are in process of
registering ACES in every state we have a city Manager.
We will be collecting and paying applicable sales tax and
I was wondering if you have updated your Summary Sheet.
For example, in New York, the supervision is taxable on
the install and not on the dismantle. That should probably be
explained on the chart.
One more interesting thing, when I was registering ACES in
Pennsylvania, they required the NAICS code on their form.
I searched and could not find one that fit so I called
the NAICS office which happens to be in north New Jersey and he
said he had received calls prior to mine but said to choose
something that was 60% of what we do and it would be good
enough. After further search, I found us!
#238390 reads: “Trade show exhibit
installation and dismantling contractors”. I called
him back and he was excited to know it existed and said it must
have been created with the 2007 update and now he has it to
give to others who call.
Keep in touch.
Thank you,
Vicki Giron
