EACA NEWS

Rally at the Alley This Week!   The Rally at the Alley IV will be held on March 27th at Lucky Strike Lanes in Boston.

The Rally at the Alley is a bowl-a-thon event held in Boston every March, was founded four years ago to not only financially support the RSMGC but also as a way for New England and East Coast based companies and people to gather and show support for our industry.

This year, we are once again grateful for the opportunity to be of assistance to a local individual and her family, Bonnie DiStasio of Champion Logistics Group, Boston.

Bonnie has had a difficult year battling and eventually beating breast cancer. Until you have experienced it, no one can imagine the emotional and financial damage cancer can do to a family. Bonnie and her husband Matt have worked hard this past year to fight a terrible disease while maintaining a normal lifestyle for their two children, Gina, 11 and Anthony, 7. While insurance has covered a good portion of Bonnie's medical expenses, personal expenses such as travel to and from the hospital, parking fees and time away from work for both Bonnie and her husband Matt can quickly add up.

The Rally at the Alley is proud to be an ancillary event of the Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic, a 501.3.c charitable organization.    More information can be found at www.rallyatthealley.com
, or by contacting Sharon Bingham for details at 800-342-1482 or sbingham@championboston.com.

INDUSTRY NEWS

GWCC Makes Repairs.    <M&C Midweek News> The Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta has postponed and canceled several meetings and conventions this week in order to make repairs to its tornado-ravaged exterior.

The Clinical Laboratory Management Association ThinkLab '08 Conference and Exhibition and the Central Atlanta Progress Meeting have been postponed until further notice, and the ING Georgia Marathon and Fitness Expo on March 30 has been moved to the Georgia Dome.

Officials for the center said they are developing a timeline for the repairs and are confident that three large meetings in the coming weeks will go on as scheduled: the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Auto Show (April 19-27), FIRST Robotics (April 16-19) and the DECA International Career Development Conference (April 26-29).

Shows going on as scheduled this week include the International Window Coverings Expo and the National Propane Gas Association's Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo. Officials said no damage estimates have been calculated yet, but a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution estimated the center suffered at least $100 million in damages.

Torch Passed to Next Generation at Hargrove, Inc.    <Trade Show Executive> Earl C. Hargrove Jr., president and founder of Hargrove, Inc., formally turned over the reins of the company on March 18 to his son-in-law Tim McGill, CEO, and daughter Carla McGill, vice president. The purchase price was not disclosed. McGill told Trade Show Executive that the next generation of Hargrove would be focused on an aggressive growth strategy that was put in operation two years ago.

Open Skies Treaty   <M&C Midweek News> On Sunday, the historic Open Skies Treaty between the United States and the European Union will go into effect, allowing airlines to fly without restriction between any American and European destinations. (Intra-U.S. travel will remain restricted to domestic carriers, though talks are under way to do away with this rule as well.) In response to this treaty, British Airways is readying the launch of its new "premium" transatlantic airline, called OpenSkies, which will begin flights between Paris and New York City this summer. The airline will add new routes and planes through 2009.

EXPO, Red 7 Media launch Green Event Summit    <Expo Web News>   EXPO, its parent company, Red 7 Media, and three sister publications - Event Marketer, Event Design and Agenda - have announced the launch of the Green Event Summit, the first national conference bringing together executives representing every facet of the event and trade show industry to discuss, learn and share best practices for creating eco-friendly meetings and events. The Green Event Summit will take place at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco, June 12-13, 2008.

Editors Note: While the effort at launching a Green Summit is commendable, the list of involved organizations does not include facilities, unions, or EACs.
