EACA NEWS

Orange County Convention Center Announces Contractor Security Program    The Orange County Convention Center announced today that it will work with the Exhibitor Appointed Contractor Association (EACA), a non-profit organization, to implement an online database system for all contractors working at the center.  The new program will allow the OCCC to consolidate contractor information, to better track required documentation, and to directly communicate with all of its approved contractors.  This will help improve the overall security of the convention center and its guests, and the database could easily be integrated with a national ID system if one is adopted by the convention industry.  The web-based system will include audio visual, carpeting, furniture rental, labor, floral, and many other companies who support the OCCC and its clients.

Work rules become more flexible at McCormick Place   <Expo Web News>  The carpenters union at McCormick Place, leading contractors and The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority have reached a collective bargaining agreement that is expected to reduce costs and offer more flexibility for exhibitors.

The new agreement reached with the Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters expands the window of straight time wages for carpenters who set up and dismantle exhibits. The contract, which also requires random drug and alcohol testing, took effect last week.

The carpenters are the fourth union group working at McCormick Place to negotiate more flexible work rules during the last two years.

Experient, Ed Shartar Part Ways   <Tradeshow Week>  When Ed Shartar's contract as president and CEO of Experient came up for renewal recently, his decision to step down June 6 wasn't all that hard to make.

Shartar said he and Andrew W. Strauss, chairman of the Experient board and a partner with The Riverside Company, Experient's majority shareholder, discussed what Shartar wanted and what would be best for the business.

Strauss and the board wanted a president and CEO based at one of the company's major operations hubs. Shartar, who's worked from an office in his hometown of Atlanta for the past four years, did not want to either relocate his family or spend his workweek away from them.
