WiFi In the Air? <M&C Midweek News> Last week, American Airlines became the first domestic carrier to offer in-flight broadband Internet access with the launch of "Gogo," its new Wi-Fi service, on Boeing 767-200 jets traveling between New York City and San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami. The airline will charge passengers $12.95 for access on flights longer than three hours, the same price that Delta Air Lines plans to charge for its Wi-Fi service, which is slated for launch next summer. Philly Expansion on Track <M&C Midweek News> The expansion of Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Convention Center appears to be on track, after bids to complete the most expensive phase of the project would bring the total cost to $777 million, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Governor Ed Rendell speculated to the newspaper that the state might have to pull the plug on the project if bids were too far above the original $700 million estimate. Should the bids be accepted, the extra $77 million could be covered by an increase in the city's hotel tax, a measure already approved by the state legislature. The expansion has an estimated completion date of January 2011. A spokesperson at the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau was unable to confirm the details. Hynes to get facelift and technology improvements <Expo Web News> Legislation has been passed and signed by the Governor of Massachusetts to allow renovations at the John B. Hynes Memorial Convention Center to proceed. The renovations will include 20,000 square feet of restaurant space as well as technological, environmental and safety upgrades to the facility. The project is expected to cost $18 million. Forty percent of event producers to add green initiatives <Expo Web News> Forty percent of event producers anticipate launching green initiatives in the next 12 to 18 months and another 43 percent have already done so, according to The Green Event Imperative: The First Annual EMI Insights Report on the State of Green Event Marketing published by the Event Marketing Institute, EXPO's sister company.
