RSMGC Announces Its 2008 Recipients!
 
The 2008 Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic, which will take place at Chateau Elan on October 24, 2008 in Braselton, GA (outside of Atlanta), has announced its recipients for 2008.   They are:

EACA to Participate at IAAM’s International Convention Center Conference.       Jim Wurm, Executive Director of the EACA, will participate in a panel discussion at IAAM’s Int’l Convention Center Conference in Portland, OR on September 26, 2008 at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower
 
New Developments in the Tradeshow Workforce is a panel discussion that will be moderated by Steve Schwartz of the Washington Convention Center which will contain discussions on a wide variety of operations issues.  Joining Jim and Steve on the panel will be Randy Eppard, Ph.d., EACA Customer Service Training program; Larry Arnaudet, ESCA; Joe Sangregorio, GES;  and Ken Viscovich, UBC.
 
Topics of discussion will include customer service training for workers, contractor and worker access and credentialing issues, and drug testing,

Chicago Chapter Meeting
The Chicago Chapter of the EACA will host a meeting at McCormick Place for all members on Monday, October 27 at 10am in Rm E153.      This is your chance to share your thoughts, concerns, and ideas with your EAC colleagues on what the EACA and the Chicago Chapter can do to make trade shows in Chicago  better than ever!
A continental breakfast will be provided, courtesy of the EACA Chicago Chapter.

Las Vegas Convention Center Announcement

Effective, Friday, August 15, 2008, ALL Exhibitor Appointed Contractors (EAC) requiring access to drop-off/pickup equipment necessary to erect exhibits will be required to report to the Official Service Contractor’s designated marshalling yard for the assigned show or event. Upon arriving at the marshalling yard, the EAC will be issued all necessary freight door passes by the Official Service Contractor. These passes will allow access to appropriate LVCC area(s) for drop-off of booth assembly equipment.
 
All EAC’s will be required to follow below listed restrictions; Failure to comply with these procedures may result in loss of privileges at the LVCVA:
Ÿ      Unloading of equipment in front of buildings is prohibited.
Ÿ      All equipment must be carried through freight doors only.
Ÿ      Equipment shall not be allowed into the building through a walk-through door under any circumstances.
Ÿ      All equipment MUST be stored inside show booth or display area, or removed from LVCC property at end of each day.
Ÿ      Storage on property will be extremely limited due to ongoing construction. However, arrangements for additional storage may be discussed by contacting show’s Official Service Contractor.
 
Designated locations for drop-off of equipment with freight access pass:
NORTH HALLS
(Freight Door #15) – Access from North Road, proceed to red curb adjacent to Warehouse just east of freight door #15.
CENTRAL HALLS      
(Freight Door #6) – Access from Joe W. Brown Drive, adjacent to LVCVA Wash Rack just south of freight door #6.
SOUTH HALLS 1 and 2; Lower Level                     
(Freight Door #40) – Access from Swenson Avenue, proceed to freight door 40.
SOUTH HALLS 3 and 4; Upper Level
(Freight Door #52) – Access from Paradise Road, proceed to location west of freight
door #52.



Orlando Chapter News

OCCC Reminder
The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has implemented a new Contractor Security Program for all contractors that work there.  The new program will allow the OCCC to consolidate contractor information, to better track required documentation, and to directly communicate with all of its approved contractors.   The further intention of this program is to help improve the overall security of the convention center and its guests.
 
The EACA has been retained by the OCCC to administer this program and to maintain an online database of registered companies.
 
If you have yet to register for the OCCC program, and intend to work in the facility during the next year, please do so immediately, and use the OCCC Contractor Security Agreement form.

Hurricane Gustav Leaves New Orleans Relatively Unharmed   <M&C Midweek News> According to a statement released Monday night by the New Orleans Convention  Visitors Bureau, "No significant damage to the hospitality infrastructure of New Orleans has been reported at this time, and it is not anticipated that the storm will have any impact on the fall convention and meetings calendar." The city's hotels, currently closed, will reopen when Mayor Ray Nagin lifts the evacuation order. Both the New Orleans Morial Convention Center and the Louisiana Superdome were under the protection of the National Guard and the state police during the hurricane's approach. As of yesterday, the airport still had not reopened.
 
Korse and Shomer form new company, acquire Abilities Expo   <ExpoWeb News>
5Net4 Productions, a new Santa Monica, CA-based company formed by David Korse and Lew Shomer, has acquired Abilities Expo from Questex Media Group, a b-to-b diversified media company. Launched in 1979 by Richard and Pat Wooten, Abilities Expo is a series of shows focused on people with disabilities, caretakers and corporate and HR managers that manage company ADA programs.
 
Gov. Schwarzenegger to Address TSE’s Gold 100 Honorees    <Trade Show Executive> A leading celebrity in the political arena will address the leading celebrities in the trade show industry during Trade Show Executive’s Gold 100 Awards Gala & Summit September 17-19 at the five-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Resort in Laguna Niguel, CA. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to meet and greet the leaders of the 100 top trade shows in the nation during an Academy-Awards®-type ceremony on September 18.
 
Jon Ellms Named Vice President and Director of Access TCA     Access TCA, announced today that Jon Ellms, director of the healthcare practice, has been promoted to vice president and named to the company’s board of directors.

This publication is sent free of charge to all EACA members each Wednesday, and to non-members four weeks later.   Annual subscriptions to current issues of the Buzz are available to non-members for $49.95.    Please send subscription requests to jimwurm@eaca.com

EACA members are also permitted to submit job postings to the Buzz free of charge for a one time listing.   Member job postings can be extended for additional weeks in the Buzz as well as posted to the EACA web site.    The costs for extending your job posting are one month for $50, 2 months for $85, and 3 months for $125.
