RSMGC Takes Place This Week! The 14th Annual Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic will take place this week on October 24 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA. More than 300 trade show industry professionals will make their annual pilgrimmage to Atlanta to support our 2008 recipients and commemorate the lives of those colleagues who have departed in the past year. Nth Degree To Raise Money for the 14th Annual Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic Nth Degree will be making a special effort to raise funds for the RSMGC this year by reaching out to all employees on the showfloor in cities across the country. This company-wide event will take place on October 08 – 10, 2008 for most Nth Degree cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, D.C., Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando and San Francisco, and on October 15 -16, 2008 for Seattle, San Antonio, Southern California, Denver, New York, Philadelphia and Phoenix only, based on show schedules. Over these days Nth Degree will be collecting money through all of our city offices . At the end of the fundraiser, Nth Degree will match all contributions and will present the Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic with a collective donation. Three Nth Degree employees and their families have benefited from the RSMGC over the past 14 years including Frankie Pozza, Sherry Reynolds and Wayne Veal. This year’s recipients include the families of two Nth Degree associates: Jim Dock, aformer Nth Degree employee and Keri Lee Ann Mincy, the daughter of Ron Mincy, from The Design Agency.

Chicago Chapter Meeting The Chicago Chapter of the EACA will host a meeting at McCormick Place for all members on Monday, October 27 at 10am in Rm E153. GRAPH Expo EAC Meeting Announcement Show Management asks that representatives from any EAC companies working at GRAPH EXPO attend a brief welcome meeting during the move-in of GRAPH EXPO on Wednesday, October 22, at 9:30 am in Room S401a. Please join us for coffee and discussion of the guidelines for trash removal and booth set up below. At least one representative from each company should plan to attend. OCCC Reminder The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has implemented a new Contractor Security Program for all contractors that work there. The new program will allow the OCCC to consolidate contractor information, to better track required documentation, and to directly communicate with all of its approved contractors. The further intention of this program is to help improve the overall security of the convention center and its guests. The EACA has been retained by the OCCC to administer this program and to maintain an online database of registered companies. If you have yet to register for the OCCC program, and intend to work in the facility during the next year, please do so immediately, and use the OCCC Contractor Security Agreement form.
OCCC Approved Contractors List All contractors who have completed the OCCC Contractor Security Agreement and are approved to work in the building can be seen on the EACA web site under the “Facilities” tab at the top of the home page. EDPA Announces New Headquarters Team The Exhibit Designers and Producers Association (EDPA) and the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association Foundation (EDPAF) has named its new headquarters team as the trade group ramps up its effort to expand membership and grow the organization.
Stepping up as Executive Director is Jeff Provost, formerly Membership Services Manager of the Event Marketing Institute. A graduate of Yale University, Jeff has a background in the business side of the performing arts, with extensive experience in member subscription marketing and retention programs.
Also named to the team is Kimberly Wilson, who will serve as Member Services Coordinator. Wilson was previously Office Manager of Red 7 Media. Rounding out the new squad is Andrea Quirk, who will serve as Sales and Development Associate.
William Reilly, Founder of Primedia and Summit, Passes Away <Trade Show Executive> Bill Reilly, who teamed with private equity firms to found Primedia and later Summit Business Media, died October 17 at the age of 70 after a year-long battle with cancer. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, October 22 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City following a wake on Tuesday. Reilly spent more than 30 years in publishing, culminating in the launch of Summit Business Media in 2006. He stepped down as CEO last year but remained as chairman of the board.
Chicago’s Midway Airport to be Privatized. <M&C Midweek News> Chicago's city council has approved a plan to privatize Midway Airport, making it the first major airport in the country to take such a step, although many foreign airports are privately run. Midway International and Development, a consortium of Citi Infrastructure Investors, YVR Airport Services and John Hancock Life Insurance, won the 99-year lease with a bid of $2.5 billion, which still needs to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.
