CES Bars EACs from Using Scooters. Citing “safety reasons”, CES Show management issued a new show rule prior to the move-in of this year’s show which bars any EAC from using a scooter in the convention center during move-in and move-out.
Only the CES general service contractor, GES, is allowed to use motorized scooters to move around the show which occupies more than 1.8 million net square feet of exhibit space.
The concern about scooter safety seems a bit unusual in light of the fact that sources familiar with LVCVA operations indicated there were no documented reports of scooter incidents or accidents at CES, or any other show in the convention center – EVER!
The EACA has appealed to CES show management to reconsider the rule in consideration of the concerns of exhibitors who utlize EACs to service their displays. Without scooters to get around this enormous show, those EACs with significant volumes of work will have their response times to their customers impacted which can only result in increased costs to the CES exhibitors in question.
At publication time, the EACA had not received a response from CES show management.

OCCC Reminder
The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has implemented a new Contractor Security Program for all contractors that work there. The new program will allow the OCCC to consolidate contractor information, to better track required documentation, and to directly communicate with all of its approved contractors. The further intention of this program is to help improve the overall security of the convention center and its guests.
The EACA has been retained by the OCCC to administer this program and to maintain an online database of registered companies.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise. To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love, openness and the willingness to remain vulnerable.
