EACA Customer Service Training Offer.     In recognition of the challenges presented by the current economy in conjunction with the need to provide even higher levels of customer servivce, the EACA is making a special offer to all its members.

ECN Publishes 4th Annual Go-To Guide.   Exhibit City News has recently announced that it is putting together the 4th ECN Showfloor GO-TO GUIDE which will be distributed at the Exhibitor show in March.

The deadline to reserve space in this year’s publication is Feb 27th and art deadline is March 4th.

EACA PEOPLE IN THE NEWS

Our condolences to the McMahon Family.   It is with a very heavy heart and a great deal of sadness that we share the passing of a member of our Edlen family, Steven Mark McMahon.
 
Steve’s brave battle with cancer came to an end on Saturday, January 24, 2009.  He is survived by his loving wife, Michell, and their children John, Kyle, Karson, Kaley and Konnor, as well as Steve’s sister and his mother.  

Steve had worked in the audio visual industry for many years in Chicago, Miami and finally in Las Vegas. It was in Miami where Steve first made the Edlen connection.  Steve was the Assistant General Manager for the in-house audio visual department at Miami Beach’s Fontainebleau Resort for over ten years.  It was there that he first met Jim and Lenny.  Edlen often worked with Steve and the in-house AV in the production of events.  In 1994, Steve and Michell decided to move to Las Vegas, where Steve worked for GES at the Las Vegas Hilton. A few years after their move, in September of 1997, Steve joined Edlen in the capacity of Vice President of Administration.

Steve will be remembered for his kindness, his gentle spirit, his quiet faith and his absolute love for his family and friends.

EAC Reminder from IHA

     International Home + Housewares Show Pre-Con Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at 1:00 pm inmeeting room E255 at McCormick Place.

     Reminder to all EAC’s regarding your client’s booths - Service of utilities must be supplied at the rear of booths.  Exhibit structures must have a one-foot unobstructed corridor in the rear and six inches on one side of the space to allow passage for utility and maintenance personnel.

NO SMOKING at McCormick Place

A reminder to all contractors working at McCormick Place that the No Smoking Policy will be strictly enforced.   Anyone in violation will receive a citation.


New England Chapter News

Rally at the Alley Announces Dates / Beneficiary  

The 5th Annual Rally at the Alley will take place in
Boston and is  scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2009.

This year's Rally will benefit industry veteran Chris Kolesnik.   Many of you know Chris from her days at Access TCA and Exhibitgroup/Giltspur, or may have worked with her since creating Cyrkdesign in 2003. Or perhaps you know her husband, Howard Bailey, a long time employee and retiree of Exhibitgroup/Giltspur.

What you may not know is that last fall Chris was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. There's never a good time to hear you have cancer, and for Chris, last fall was no exception. Just one year prior her husband developed Temporal Arteritis, leaving him partially blind in one eye and resulting in a number of procedures and ultimately surgery. 

Thank you to Michael Hanifan of Sacks Exhibits for nominating Chris for this year's Rally.

ASAE Launches Economic Impact Survey   <Trade Show Executive>   How will the economy impact associations? A new survey conducted by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership is expected to provide insights on how the ailing economy may impact membership in associations and participation in association events.

Reed Cancels BookExpo Canada    <Tradeshow Week>  Reed Exhibitions Canada has canceled the annual BookExpo Canada, which was scheduled June 19-22, and will no longer launch the Toronto Book Fair, which was to be a consumer event.    Reed will continue to produce BookExpo America, May 28-31 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center of New York.

Ex-Penton CEO Tom Kemp Named Head of Northstar Travel Media  

<Trade Show Executive>  Tom Kemp, a former chairman and CEO of Penton Media, was named CEO and chairman of Northstar Travel Media (NTM), the publisher of Meetings & Conventions and other magazines geared to the hospitality industry. Northstar is part of the Boston Ventures portfolio.

   The Showfloor Buzz is a publication of the Exhibitor Appointed Contractor Association (EACA) which is dedicated to "raising the level of service excellence on the showfloor." 

This publication is sent free of charge to all EACA members each Wednesday, and to non-members four weeks later.   Annual subscriptions to current issues of the Buzz are available to non-members for $49.95.    Please send subscription requests to jimwurm@eaca.com.

EACA members are also permitted to submit job postings to the Buzz free of charge for a one time listing.   Member job postings can be extended for additional weeks in the Buzz as well as posted to the EACA web site.    The costs for extending your job posting are one month for $50, 2 months for $85, and 3 months for $125.
