EACA News

MPEA Announces 2001 Scooter & Fork Truck Policy. The Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority (MPEA) recently announced the establishment of a formal scooter and fork truck policy for use of that equipment in McCormick Place. Citing a safety concern for the use of motorized scooters, golf carts, fork trucks and flat bed trucks, rules were recently distributed to all show contractors, EACs and security agencies by Daniel Cozzi, Asst. Director of Fire Safety.

In an effort to continue to provide a safe and productive environment for its employees and visitors, MPEA will require the following rules be complied with:

1.McCormick Place Fire Safety Division must inspect all motorized scooters and golf carts.
2.A copy of your insurance policy must be supplied to the Fire Safety Division, and will be kept on file.
3.There will be no charge for this inspection.
4.The inspections will begin on Feb. 15, 2001 and continue through April. 15, 2001. Please contact Fire Safety Supervisor, Tom Goslawski at 312-791-6174 to schedule inspections.
5.Any scooter, or golf cart, not inspected by April 15, 2001 will not be allowed in the McCormick Place complex. The Fire Safety Division will strictly enforce this policy and no exceptions will be allowed.
6.Scooters and golf carts found to be in violation will be confiscated and held for 10 days unless corrective action is taken.
7.Fork trucks, scooters, golf carts and/or flat bed trucks that are blocking or parked illegally will be towed immediately.

For a complete copy of the McCormick Place Scooter & Truck Policy contact Daniel Cozzi at MPEA, or send an email to jimwurm@eaca.com.

In addition, this survey will gather relevant data on employee compensation broken down by service category and size of company.

To insure the confidentiality of the information provided, , the EACA will have all data tabulated by its accounting firm, Stephen Greer & Associates. Dear Showfloor Buzz

For the first time we had an EAC check-in desk at Toy Fair. My number one reason was for security and the need to monitor access to the floor. But I also want to develop more personal relationships with the dozens of EACs working for my exhibitors each year. In no way was it to inconvenience or thwart their efforts. The flaw in my system was that many laborers came up from the labor hall through the back of the exhibit hall. My check-in desk was located in the front of the hall and while it captured many EAC supervisors who signed for the number of badges they needed, many were lost. I need to find a location that can serve the purpose better. In the post show meeting with my floor managers we discussed the option of having the check-in in the labor hall. Can you help me canvas your EAC members who do business at the Javits Center for a practical approach to this issue. There may be a show in NY that has a system that your members feel works well for them. Any assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Marian Bossard Operations Manager American International Toy Fair

Dear Marian,

Thanks for your email and your interest in working more closely with EACs for the benefit of your show, and your exhibitors. We will have a member of our Board, who is very familiar with the Javits CC, contact you to discuss options for improving on this check-in system. I'm confident that we can find a solution that will help to accomplish your goals.

Best regards,

Jim Wurm EACA
