EACA Adds Professional Development Network to Web Site
.   The EACA has added a new capability to its web site in our ongoing efforts to serve our members.    While many people have begun to explore the advantages of such virtual networks like “Linked In”, the EACA Professional Development Network will take that idea to the next level and beyond.

To check out our new networking tool go to http://eaca1.de-arimasu.com.      Once there you will be asked to register, and join in on our first discussion group – Economic Indicators.

 LVCC Meeting Results

A meeting spearheaded by the persistent efforts of Phil Marchusic,  with Steve Patterson and Earl Easterling with the LVCC was held on Monday October 26th.

Steve had asked the meeting be held to just two EAC representatives to address newly enacted EAC Equipment Ingress and Egress ‘guidelines’.  I am sure there are many concerns and challenges that have caused frustration across the board, so, hopefully this will help us understand a more clearly what the intentions of the implemented LVCC door assigned program.

Concerns Expressed:

Multiple GC’s operating in several halls and getting several door access passes for unloading equipment

*           Unloading at the assigned door and rolling from one end of the hall to the other

Unloading at assigned door and air walls divide the show we are accessing

Trying to access the assigned doors for dismantle time

           Getting door access passes conveniently

Steve Patterson’s response:

He meets with a “Partner Committee” comprised of building and GC representatives to discuss these matters.  What precipitated the new program was the blocking of exit doors, crowding of large amounts of gang boxes, ladders, and cages against a freight door at the close of the show, and severe damage to glass doors when bringing in equipment.

Here is what was intended by this procedure according to Steve:

Provide a consistent and same access for equipment

Use of the doors are for EQUIPMENT ONLY, smaller hand carry items are not subject to this rule and can be carried in as long as its not through the front doors

Once the pass is issued there should be not time limit on the unloading regardless whether it’s the install or dismantle.  He emphasized not blocking freight doors or emergency exit doors.

If the assigned door does not give direct access to show being serviced, the doorman is allowed to change doors for better access.  If there is someone that is being uncooperative, then they asked us to notify Sergeant Earl Easterling or Scot Fletcher of Security 892-7400 or 892-7411 and ask for relocation of the door for access.

Summary:

The LVCC’s main concern is random dropping of equipment and damage to the building.  They will cooperate and assist us as needed.  They are looking into issuing a “Show” pass for equipment so one pass will have all doors and good for the whole show so only one trip to the Marshalling yard is required.

This has not been approved yet and will be brought up a the next Partner meeting.

Use of the designated doors are in place, Door number 15,6.40, and 52.  Let’s see how this works for SEMA and if there are any concerns please let me know.

I know this does not solve all the issues, but hopefully clarify some of the language in the white paper circulated by LVCC Security.

Thanks for your cooperation….Bernie Massett

TSEA Revamps Training Programs
<M&C Midweek News> The Trade Show Exhibitors Association is overhauling its educational programming and marketing identity to become more relevant to its members and attract younger professionals to the organization. "We're revamping everything we do," said Margit Weisgal, president and CEO of TSEA, who took over for Stephen Schuldenfrei in May. On Oct. 23, a new TSEA chapter was formed in Georgia, and six others –  Baltimore/Washington, Boston, Dallas, New York, and Northern and Southern California –  will launch over the next few months. One of the major new initiatives at TSEA is an online learning center with downloadable recordings of seminars and exclusive podcasts, which will be available beginning early next year.

Continental expands paperless boarding program to LaGuardia     <T&E Magazine>   Last week, Continental Airlines expanded its paperless boarding pass pilot program to New York City's LaGuardia Airport. (Delta has offered paperless boarding at LaGuardia since mid-June.) The program allows travelers to receive electronic boarding passes on their cell phones or PDAs, which are then scanned by bar code readers. Paperless boarding already is available elsewhere in the country: Continental also is testing the program in Boston, Cleveland, Newark, Washington, D.C., and at three Texas airports: Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Northwest Airlines offers it in Indianapolis and soon will do so in Detroit. Alaska Airlines provides paperless boarding in Seattle.

Size limits on inflight liquids to be lifted next year, says TSA
<T&E Magazine>  The Transportation Security Administration is working toward loosening restrictions on liquids, gels and aerosols and hopes to remove the size limits by next fall, according to a blog entry by TSA administrator Kip Hawley. According to the post, by next fall most airports will be using the more advanced AT X-Ray units and software, with which TSA agents will be able to differentiate liquid threats vs. nonthreats. Liquids still will need to be placed in a separate bin, however. By the end of 2010, noted Hawley, updated AT X-Ray software will allow the TSA to lift that requirement as well.
